I just opened up an online shop, where you can buy my original artwork, including my recent INKtober drawings!

Click here to check it out!

If there's a piece of mine that you'd like that you don't see in the shop, please let me know and I'll add it (if I still have the original).  Thanks!
Thank you so much to everyone who has commissioned me! Sorry for the long silence! I started work at Disney Interactive last month, so I've been super busy with that. So since my time is so limited these days, I'm closing commissions for the time being. However, if you have already ordered a commission from me and I haven't finished it yet, I will still do it! Never fear! It will just take me some time to get through them all. So thank you ahead of time for your patience! You guys are awesome!
Hey guys!

So I have good news and bad news. The exceptionally good news is that I got a paid internship in the concept art department at Disney Interactive!! The bad news is that I have to move into the city before I start working there in June, and at the moment I can't afford that. So I'm offering special discounted commissions so I can hopefully pay the deposit and first month's rent on an apartment before I start my real job. Please help!

Discounted prices are good until June 1st!

Hey. Hey guys.  I got a tumblr.  Check it out:  cstebar.tumblr.com/

Also, I went to the CTN Animation Expo in Burbank, California this weekend.  That was probably one of the singularly most inspiring events of my life.  It was such an awesome opportunity to go and see so much incredible work and get to know such amazing people!  I had some pretty good conversations with Stephen Silver and Sean "Cheeks" Galloway about character design and comics, and I came away with this really encouraging feeling that my goals really are acheivable, like they're not so distant as I had supposed.  Sometimes those prestigious studio jobs can seem so out of reach when I'm living here in po-dunk Utah, but this weekend really made me realize that I can do it.  It's totally acheivable.  Those amazing artists are just normal people like me who never gave up on doing what they wanted to do.  So now I'm just filled with this motivation to really work hard and make my portfolio awesome and grab those opportunites.  And maybe one day I can be the one to provide that inspiration to aspiring artists like the people at CTN did for me.
All commissions may be either digital or traditional.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to update real quick to let you all know that I'm back from my mission in Italy!  And it was the most amazing experience of my life.  :)  Thanks to all of you who commented and faved while I was gone.  Sorry I don't have time to respond to everyone's questions, but as you can imagine, after a year and a half of absence, the messages have really added up, so I'm just gonna start fresh from right now.

Grazie!
On September 29, 2010, I will be leaving to go serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Italy!  I'll be gone for about 18 months, during which time I will not be able to get online other than to email my family once a week, so I'll be absent from DeviantART at least until April 2012.  So I guess this is my goodbye!  Thanks for being awesome, everyone!  I'll see ya on the other side!

Arrivederci!
But first, some shameless self-promotion.  I just recently joined a site called RedBubble, and guess what!  You can buy t-shirts and hoodies and prints and stuff of my art!  So check out my page here: www.redbubble.com/people/csteb… let me know if there are any other designs in my gallery you'd like to see on shirts!  I'll make em and post em just as soon as I can.  :)

And now the big news!  The fateful letter arrived and I've been called to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints IN ROME, ITALY. I report to the Missionary Training Center on September 29th where I will be learning Italian. My mission will last for 18 months. I'm so excited and humbled by this opportunity. I can't wait to get out there and serve the people of Italy!  Yaaay!!!

Btw, commissions are still open.  :)

Just posting a new journal to clear my commission info from my front page since I'm back in school and no longer offering them.

School is awesome.  I'm taking the best classes ever: Character Design and Gesture Drawing (with former Warner Bros animator and current storyboard artist for such films as Iron Man II and Where the Wild Things Are, Ryan Woodward), and 3D Character Creation (with Disney animator Barry Zundell).  And Art History and a Religion class, but ya know, those aren't as exciting... :P

Plus, my classes are full of the coolest people ever.  Check em out!

(If I forgot anyone, please let me know.  It's hard to remember, scrolling through the big ol' list of people I watch, which usernames are people I actually know.  lol)

And if you're interested in seeing more of my sketches and rough work that never make it to deviantART, check out my blog.  Plus, I've got lots of links to other awesome artists on there.  It's like a portal to a world of artsy magic and stuff.  :D

All of a sudden, it's here.

We were told in September that Pixar was most likely coming at the beginning of March and that we'd be given plenty of notice ahead of time as to when our applications needed to be in for internships.  Well that didn't happen.  They're coming next week.  We were given two days notice to have our resumes, cover letters, demo reels, and such ready and submitted.  So it's been a pretty crazy two days.

But the point is, I'm applying for a summer internship at Pixar!  It's exciting and terrifying all at the same time.  Exciting cause...it's Pixar.  Terrifying cause I still know so little about 3D animation and the idea of living in California by myself for three months is kind of intimidating.  I'm just a kid after all.  But I couldn't just let an opportunity like this pass by.

So wish me luck!  Here's hoping I get an interview next week.

P.S.  :iconchelarsen: is applying too.  Check out his awesomeness.
And let me know if anyone of the rest of you are applying!

UPDATE:  I got an interview for Wednesday!

UPDATE:  The interview went pretty well, I think.  I won't hear back for a couple weeks yet, but I'll be sure to let you all know what happens!

UPDATE:  I had an interview over the phone today with the hiring committee (a group of technical directors and recruiters).  Moving on forward...

UPDATE 4/27:  So I FINALLY heard back.  And I didn't get the job.  Oh well.  Honestly, I'm okay with that.  That just means I'll get to spend a long summer relaxing at home.  ...Plus, Pixar now knows my name.  lol

I have finally obtained 500 watchers.  So I just wanted to say thanks to all you people who view and critique my art.  I really appreciate it.
My subscription ended today.  I miss it already.

Seeing as how we're half-way through November, I figured it was time to replace my Halloween post.  So...check these folks out!

I know these people for real!  They have BYU on their transcripts too.

:iconclairictures:  Claire Gordon is the skid plate to my Jeep.  We will be best friends forever and ever and I will be bumming rides from her until the day I die.

:iconchelarsen: Jesse Larsen is in the Animation program too.  He likes Twilight, but still manages to draw like a man.

:iconcheiftainmaelgwyn:  Michelle's in the Illustration program.  She is a professional crazy.

:iconflashpotatoes: Wyatt Miles is my boss and he likes bunnies.

:iconkobb:  Rachel was made to draw cats and cats were made so Rachel could draw them.

:iconshayfifearts:  Shaylee and I almost met for real one time.

And of course, everyone should check out the magical...ness of my magical sister.

:iconpinweasel:

P.S.  I know my updates are few and far between, so for all of you who would like to see more of my sketches and stuff, you should check out my blog.  moth-eatn.blogspot.com/ &… a lot of stuff on there that will never make an appearance on DeviantART, so take a look, enjoy, and drop me a comment to let me know you came by. :)

Well I'm back home now (have been for over a week now).  And everything is going quite nicely.  I go on bike-rides with Hannah, I watch Mystery Science Theater 3000, I lounge around my house, and I work for Flash Potatoes remotely.  It's pretty sweet.  All my other friends spend their days at real jobs, but I get to make money from my couch.  I like it a lot.  Other than that, I really have nothing of importance to say.  Just thought I'd let you all know that I did in fact make it home.

P.S.  I've been posting a lot of sketchbook pages and such on my blog, so if y'all are interested in some of that stuff that is unlikely to appear here on DA, then go check it out: moth-eatn.blogspot.com/ &… leave me a comment to let me know you came by!

The Approach of Summer

It's been a long time since I've posted a journal here and by now, my acceptance to the animation program is old news, so it's time for an update.

I'm still at school, but only for a few days longer.  I decided to do a Spring Term here in order to get American Heritage, a rather nasty GE class, out of the way before I start really diving into the Animation program.  As any BYU student can tell you, American Heritage is not fun, but I just finished the final exam about two and a half hours ago, so I never have to think about it again!  Hooray!

In order to maintain my sanity while tackling American Heritage twice as fast as during a regular semester, I took an animation class at the same time.  Basically, it just involved the continuation of my work on Kelly Loosli's Red Head documentary.  My scenes have now been passed on to some newbie students for the clean-up work, so that's pretty exciting.  It'll be interesting to see what we get back.

But in other exciting news, I got a job offer from an Animation studio here in Provo called Flash Potatoes.  Apparently they heard about me from another animation student, found my blog, and decided they wanted to hire me.  Needless to say, I was very flattered.  I've only been animating for less than a year.  So I told them that I'd love to come work for them, but that I'm going home for summer, to which they replied that I could start working remotely from home!  That means I won't have to get a lame job waiting tables or something over the summer!  I can actually get paid to animate and I can do it from the comfort of my own home!  I'm very excited.

But the most exciting news of all at this point is that I'm going home in just four days.  In less than a week, I could be chilling in a pool with Pinweasel, playing video games, and spending some quality time with my giant hairy dog (not all at the same time, of course...).
